3 Dark Lipstick Shades That Look Amazing On Indian Skin Tones!

If there’s one thing I can’t leave the house without, is a great, bold, dark lipstick! Yep, I’m that girl who could trade anything in the world for a gorgeous sultry shade of lipstick that could transform my otherwise basic makeup look. I know it could be intimidating to pull off a berry lip or a dark purple on an everyday basis. But TBH, with a few makeup tricks, you’ll fall in love with how gorgeous these bold shades look on our Indian skin.

It’s easy to pull off more pigmented colours that will complement our complexion and enhance our divine skin.  If you’re worried about looking OTT with a dark lippie, the trick is to keep the rest of your makeup muted and work the lip colour as your statement look for the day.

If you’re still not convinced, you could play it safe and invest in colours like deep reds and gradually move into berry tones to stay in your comfort zone. Pick a colour that has a bit more of an orange/warm undertone to the lipstick. So brick reds, oxblood, and wine hues work really well on our skin.

If you’re on the hunt for some great dark lippies, I’ve listed my top 3 favourites you could get your hands on too. These are my go-to colours and trust me, they’ve got me lotta compliments and eyeballs.

This gorgeous liquid matte lipstick by Huda has to be hands-down one of the best matte lippies, I’ve ever tried in a long time. Huda has been synonymous with their liquid matte lipsticks and thankfully, we can now get our hands on this cult favourite product!  I absolutely love all the colours this range has to offer but Material Girl has my heart! The bold purple lipstick is such a statement colour and believe me you, it looks really good on every skin tone.

What I love:

  • The colour payoff is great

  • It lasts a good 12 hrs ( tried and tested, ladies!)

  • It has a lovely velvety matte finish

  • It’s transfer free

  • The lightweight formula keeps your pout hydrated

I’m sure this one is no surprise. MAC has been a crowd pleaser for a while now. If you’ve ever walked passed a MAC store, you know it’s the ultimate lipstick heaven. And this iconic matte lipstick in the shade Diva is such a treat to your pout and eyes. The deep berry colour instantly adds a festive vibe to your look. Again, it’s another one of those magical shades that fits right for all kinds of complexion, especially us dusky girls.

What I love:

  • The colour payoff is great

  • It has a lovely cream matte finish

  • Keeps your pout looking soft and hydrated

This pocket-friendly brand is a great buy if you’re experimenting with dark lipsticks for the first time. The best part about this product is that you can build on the colour if needed. Transylvania is a beautiful brick red that works well for all occasions and skin tones. And TBH, for 600 rupees, this product is a must-have.

What I love:

  • Highly-pigmented

  • It has a lovely cream matte finish, which dries into a soft matte

  • Super pocket-friendly

    Hi Snehal!

I actually recently picked up Transylvania because I have been digging vamp-like shades for a while now, and I knew I could start at NYX. While I am not usually an ardent lipstick-collector or -wearer, and I do not know if I am gonna go out and purchase more lipsticks in similar shades etc., this has quickly become a favourite much like RiRi Woo. There are some problems when it comes to layering – it is not as pigmented in the first go, like you said. (Material Girl looks quite nice too, and I have heard about Diva from other folks as well.)

Hope you have been well, otherwise?
